From the demo video: voice-guided flows running on the MVP.

What it is

A finance app for blind and low-vision users, from opening an account to paying with QRIS.

Who it's for

Visually impaired adults who cannot finish a standard e-KYC step without borrowing someone else's eyes.

How it works

Voice guidance leads every step, the camera recognises banknotes, and each screen uses large targets with spoken feedback.

The problem

Context

Around 22.97 million Indonesians live with disabilities. For visually impaired users, most banking apps fail at the first step: e-KYC flows need someone else's eyes, so independence ends before the account exists.

What we learned first

Users didn't ask for more features. They asked not to need help: to verify identity, recognise banknotes and pay by QRIS without handing their phone to someone.

Constraints

  • One month, student team
  • Every screen must work with a screen reader and voice first

My role

Richard on this project

Product Manager & UI/UX designer

Team
Team Gedag Gedig, Scrum
Duration
1-month competition

Product skills

  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Accessible UX
  • Design system
  • MVP scoping

Project skills

  • Scrum
  • Scope control

As product manager

  • Ran 7 stakeholder interviews and used them to set the scope
  • Designed the accessible flows and the design system
  • Kept the MVP to the four moments users need most

As project manager

  • Led the build in Scrum sprints inside a one-month competition
  • Held the team to four flows that fully worked end to end

Not my role

  • Backend and ML were built by the engineers; I owned what and why

The work

Key decisions & trade-offs

  1. Decision 01

Scope the MVP to the moments people need help

We built voice-guided e-KYC, money detection, voice budgeting and QRIS payment, the flows where users currently depend on someone else. Hands-free AI navigation across the whole app went to the roadmap.

Trade-off A less ambitious demo, but every flow in it worked for the people it was for.

How it was built

Accessible design system (large targets, high contrast, spoken feedback), a sustainable business model for affordability, and an MVP built with the engineering team in Scrum sprints.

How it works
  1. Open by voiceScreen-reader first
  2. e-KYCSpoken camera guidance
  3. Know the moneyBanknote detection
  4. PayQRIS with audio confirmation

What I'd do differently

Designing for screen readers made me a better designer for everyone: clear hierarchy, fewer steps, honest labels.
